Optimizer 2.0

Optimizer is a site specific yield model. It combines soil, seed and daily weather data to project yields and limiting factors. For example, if it rains too much for a particular soil and seed combination, Optimizer lets you know.

How does it work?

Optimizer tracks variables we input into the program. We start with detailed soil type data which includes moisture holding, OM, CEC, and pH, then overlay a seed profile. This profile is more or less a mathematical description of a variety’s rate of growth along with water and nutrient uptake at each growth stage. Next, we input historical weather patterns for the area and update it daily with actual, recorded weather. This process allows the projection to get more accurate with each passing day. We’ll then work with you to customize your inputs, playing different scenarios to maximize your yield. Use this to make more precise adjustments based on your outlook and risk tolerance.

How to use the output information?

Initially, use this information to place seed varieties and rates based on water holding capacity and projected growth stages. Then, later in the season adjust your nitrogen sidedress based on how much rain you’ve had to date. Or, use the information to help make the decision to add additional nitrogen after a big rain.

In addition, you can use the output information to have timely conversations with your trusted advisors who will help you make decisions that will impact yield in season. Decisions such as the timing of nitrogen, herbicide and fungicide treatments… simply organizing and sorting by growth stage is of tremendous value in timing what gets done where and when.

How to get started?

Currently, we have a free version and a subscription-based version.

Free Text Alerts: The free version is two standard fields in your county that have “standard practice” generic inputs (seed variety, soil type, planting date, etc.). You’ll receive a daily alert projecting the yield and limiting factor for these fields. Simply complete this form (click here) to receive the daily text alerts. Or create an account to receive the free daily texts as well as a demo of how the program works.

Subscribe to Optimizer: By subscribing to Optimizer, you’re able to track, change and receive info based on YOUR fields. We’ll input your varieties, planting dates and nitrogen treatments. Then, you’ll receive a summarized text of your actual whole farm projection and the ability to log in via your smart phone or office computer and view details down to the zone level in Google maps. Simply create an account (click here) and a member of the AAS team will contact you to gather all of the information we’ll need to get started.
