Crop Scout Internship
Location: Indiana, Eastern Illinois, Western Ohio
Tasks and responsibilities
• Field scouting - inspect clients’ fields and record the condition of growing crops. Identify and record growth stage, weed, insect and disease infestations and other pertinent information.
• Report findings and observations to supervisor that effect clients’ management decisions.
• Meet with clients regularly to discuss field conditions.
• Opportunities - earn college credit and/or summer bonus, sales, research, full-time potential.
Qualities and background
• Qualified agronomic knowledge and education (agronomy, weed science, and entomology are well accepted backgrounds for this position)
• Experience and/or training in crop scouting
• Farming background a plus
• Comfort with a GPS technology, wireless PDA software and field scouting equipment
• Attentive to detail, self-motivated, organized and able to work without direct supervision
• Honest, trustworthy and passionate
• Ability to follow company processes and procedures
• Effective communication and writing skills
• Thirst for knowledge!
• Valid driver’s license required
Environment
• 100% travel in territory
• 100% in the fields
• Flexible schedule - time management is scouts responsibility
• Attend training meetings in remote locations or at headquarters throughout summer
• Participate in weekly conference calls
Compensation
• Hourly pay
• Mileage reimbursement
• Use of PDA w/ data package and scouting software
