The AAS Crop Scouting Approach

What makes our crop scouting methods more effective?

Advanced Ag Solutions crop scouting service combines precisely scheduled and documented field visits with professional recommendations from our Certified Crop Advisor Regional Agronomists.

Our crop scouts are college interns who are perusing careers in an agronomic field. They are motivated to learn and gain field experience. They walk every field, every week, making electronic GPS logs every 10 acres (or customize the number of passes for your field). Our scouts then wirelessly email their observations to the Regional Agronomist who double checks their notes and measurements by revisiting the GPS points. How many insects per plant? What is the population on this soil type? The Regional Agronomist then creates a customized report with “Action Alerts” for the farm. By having two sets of objective eyes looking over your fields you get precise “Action Alerts” that help you make input and application timing decisions that boost your bottom line.

We bring a pro-active approach as opposed to a re-active approach. We will find pests, watch them develop and help you respond quickly and accurately... besides providing flexibility in product purchase sources. Spray yourself and lower your cost. It all adds up to in-season and post-season improvements.

Leroy Bayles

Leroy Bayles is a senior at Purdue University majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Science with a concentration in Land Resources. He is also working on a minor in Soil Science. He didn't grow up on any big farm like most people in the school of Ag, but he enjoys agriculture and helps his grandparents with their Christmas tree farm every year. When he was younger he participated in 4-H with dog showmanship. He is the secretary in the Environmental Science Club. When he graduates he wants to be able to do something along the lines of a Soil Scientist, helping farmers understand the soil and different practices. When he’s not in school or working, he enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors whenever possible. Through his internship with Advanced Ag Solutions he hopes to get field experience and a better understanding of the weeds and insects associated with corn and soybeans. He also hopes to learn which types off seeds work better in the different soil types across the state.

Amber Bedwell

Amber has spent the past two years at Hutchinson Community College, in Kansas, where she was a member of the livestock judging team. She will be transferring to Oklahoma State in the fall to finish her degree in Agricultural Education. Amber grew up in New Richmond (known for the filming of the movie "Hoosiers"), and even though she was raised with a primarily livestock based background showing pigs, sheep, and cattle in 4-H, she hopes to use the knowledge she gains as a crop scout later in the classroom teaching students about common crops and other plants seen in the agriculture industry. After continuing her education, Amber hopes to be an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor in either Oklahoma or Indiana.
